Day 1 - Three's Company
Day 1 – Friday, Aug 17
Three’s Company
Our departures were divided – Jay and John, The Lesser (“John,
Jr”) took a route through Boston to play golf and tennis there before heading
to Ireland; Jack and Bill took their own paths, and Steve, Paul, John, The Greater
and Chan travelled together through Chicago. I can only speak for our
travelling crew directly and anecdotally for the others.
While John the Lesser and Jay had some trouble with a flat
tire on their plane in Boston and subsequent delays, all others had uneventful
travel. That is not to say that there are not some events worth reporting. For
example, when the four of us arrived at Indy airport, it didn’t take but 15 minutes
in the gate area for Paul to be talking with an attractive woman. Furthermore,
when we got to Chicago, three of us (Steve, Chan and John, The Greater) got off
the plane and were waiting for Paul from the back of the plane. You guessed it …
he was walking and talking with yet another attractive woman, who gave him a hug
and said, “I will give you a call sometime.” Of course, we have to give Paul a
hard time about all of this, but it doesn’t end there.
Upon boarding the plane for the flight to Dublin, there was still
another attractive young woman
(Susanna) chatting with Paul … and as good fortune would have it, she happened
to have a seat in Business Class across from Paul. That’s when things got interesting, and if
you don’t believe me, check out this picture.
Not surprisingly, Paul’s reclining Business Class seat did
not work thereafter, and he was stuck trying to sleep in an upright position
for the whole overnight flight. He asked Susanna if he could share her reclining
seat with her, but surprisingly, she declined his request.
Note: While most of the stories of the legendary shenanigans
of Paul are exaggerated, please be sure to know that the story about Susanna is
not (photographic evidence)!!!
We arrived on Saturday morning, and we checked into the Portmarnock
Golf and Resort Hotel uneventfully.
